FAQ
COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT HYPNOTHERAPY SESSIONS
-
Can everyone be hypnotized?
Yes. Throughout the day, you naturally go in and out of hypnosis or a theta brain wave state (think of being “in the zone” at work, your mind wandering while you’re driving, losing track of time while scrolling through social media, daydreaming, watching a movie, etc.). An expert hypnotherapist uses special techniques to help you go into a theta brain wave state, and, once there, helps you focus and work on your particular issue. Remember that all hypnosis is self hypnosis, so you get out of it what you put into it; utilize your time with your hypnotherapist and allow her/him to help you help yourself.
-
Is hypnosis dangerous?
No. Unlike what Hollywood movies and Las Vegas stage shows would have you believe, hypnosis is not sleep, mind control, truth serum, amnesia-inducing, or harmful. Because it’s a natural state you allow for yourself, a hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything against your will. You can accept or reject any suggestions–you’re the boss; you’re always the one that’s in control.
-
What does it feel like?
During a hypnosis session you may feel deeply relaxed, sensations of floating, nothing at all, tingling sensations, lightness or heaviness (experiences vary). Clients also report an increased ability to visualize. And, in many ways, hypnotherapy is like having a conversation with your eyes closed. You will be aware of everything that is said, even though your conscious mind may drift and float, perhaps even thinking thoughts during the session; It’s important to remember that even though you may be thinking other thoughts during the session, you are still in hypnosis. And, depending on what is most comfortable for you, you can sit or lie down during the session, though most clients sit up, as it’s less likely they’ll fall asleep in that position. After a session, you may continue to feel very calm and relaxed. These feelings may last for hours, days or weeks. Practicing self-hypnosis is a great way to maintain results in between sessions.
-
Does it get easier to get into hypnosis over time?
Yes. Client’s report that the more they practice, the deeper they go and the longer the results last.
-
If I can hypnotize myself, why do I need a hypnotherapist?
Great question! You don’t need a hypnotherapist to change your subconscious mind, but a qualified, certified and skilled hypnotherapist can be an invaluable coach, guide and ally in your healing, self-improvement, pain management, habit control, releasing of phobias and fears, overcoming blocks from past traumas and experiences, and goal setting and achievement. Many clients don’t want to do the work on their own and prefer a hypnotherapist for their guidance, accountability and support.
-
Are you a licensed/certified hypnotherapist?
Yes! It’s so important that you work with a properly trained hypnotherapist, as you are trusting someone with your mind–that’s a very big deal. I’m certified through the International Association of Counselors and Therapists (IACT).
-
How often should I have a session?
We will discuss a treatment plan during your first session and decide upon what best serves your needs. If you are new to hypnosis, sessions are best completed on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Some clients after completing an initial package, have a monthly session for “mindset maintenance.” Regardless of weekly, bi-weekly or monthly sessions, for maximum benefit, self-hypnosis or listening to your personalized hypnosis recordings should be done daily in between hypnotherapy sessions.
